Medclic: the Mediterranean, just a click away

Observing our sea to gain more insight into the world.

    The Mediterranean Sea: our laboratory.

The Mediterranean Sea is like a small-scale ocean. Through observation we can study the role played by seas and oceans in climate change, as well as the effects of this climate change on the sea, coastline and marine ecosystems.

The Medclic programme has the following goals:

    • In the area of research: to progress in resolving small-scale oceanic variability.

    • In the area of awareness: to raise society's awareness of new scientific approaches to marine and coastal observation and share the findings of research into small-scale variability.

The scientific community specialising in marine and coastal research and all those sensitive towards environmental problems.

    We investigate

The Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) of the Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System (SOCIB) is a multiplatform observation and forecasting system that provides data, products and services to meet the needs of marine and coastal research, technological development and society in general.

These new oceanographic observation systems represent a technological development and also improve our ability to respond to specific problems such as beach erosion and water quality.

    We raise awareness

The "la Caixa" Foundation, together with the ICTS SOCIB, is working to ensure society values research and understands and is sensitive towards environmental problems such as climate change.

To bring science closer to people, Medclic carries out educational programmes and activities to raise awareness of science related to research into the Mediterranean.
