  • DESCRIPTION

Continuing with the tradition of holding exhibitions related to the world of cinema, ”la Caixa” Foundation presents a journey back in time to the years that saw the birth of the seventh art, via a visionary artist: Georges Méliès.

Méliès revolutionised cinema: he built the very first film studio and promoted the production and distribution of films. He also worked as an actor and wrote and directed his own films. Thanks to all this, today he's considered to be the creator of cinematography.

Georges Méliès was a precursor. Great plots, editing techniques and coloured films are the origin of one of the most popular and profitable genres in the history of the seventh art: fantasy films. Méliès' films convey vitality, creativity, illusion, fantasy and a sense of humour, and prove that anything is possible in the cinema.

Exhibition produced with the participation of La Cinémathèque Française.
