  • PROGRAM

The “la Caixa” Foundation’s Work 4 Progress (hereinafter W4P) Programme aims to promote employment for women and young people in regions in Mozambique, India and Peru by creating an action and learning platform to offer innovative solutions. The programme focuses on the high-impact prototype of solutions identified in spaces of co-creation1 and collaborative learning.

Therefore, the following intervention methodology to help each network of organisations to create an open platform of social innovation2 will be implemented.

The methodology will incorporate 4 structural elements:

    1. An analysis and listening platform: a process to record narratives3 and identify the needs of the community4 in which we work. This also gives us an indication of the real-time contrast of opinion and suggestions of local and institutional organisations and the people the programme targets. Moreover, it enables us to continually evaluate the programme’s development and make any corrections without having to wait until its conclusion or wait for external analyses (audits, usual end-of-project evaluations).

    2. A prototyped, co-creation1 laboratory: proposals and initiatives are first determined by the community’s4 opinion, which allows a perception of their suitability and to ensure they are connected to the information compiled on the analysis and listening platform. All proposals and initiatives should undergo this process of adjustment and adaptation to the local context.

    3. The project accelerator and investment fund:long-standing initiatives which are connected to the community4 will pass through an acceleration programme. The said programme will differentiate between small-scale and community initiatives, medium-sized initiatives (involving organisations already operating in the territory) and/or large-scale actions (which involve local institutions and private companies).

    4. The external evaluation and communication system: directly linked to the listening platform5, it establishes an external evaluation and communication system which permanently generates a public narrative on the project. This gives rise to a participatory community and adds value to the collaborative work carried out, as well as incorporating innovative evaluation mechanisms in complex situations (developmental evaluation).

The distinguishing feature of the “la Caixa” Foundation’s W4P Programme is the use of this collaborative work methodology, which seeks to go beyond the design of isolated projects to build solutions in a bona fide ecosystem of innovation.

We’ll begin with the first step to kick off the process of creating employment in Mozambique, India and Perú: to set up a listening process, which we will look at in the forthcoming units.

  • GLOSSARY

    2. Social innovation: New ideas (products, services and processes) that simultaneously satisfy the needs of social networks in a more efficient way than existing ones and create relationships or new and long-lasting social collaborations. They are innovations that are not only good for society, but also also improve its ability to act.
    3. Narratives: The perceptions that people and the community have of their own lives. They are subjective and have a major influence on the actions they believe can, or cannot, be carried out.
    4. Community: A group of people from a village, region or nation.
    5. Listening platform: A set of instruments and processes to get an in-depth understanding of the needs, challenges and opportunities of the community.
    6. Theory of change: This is a hypothesis that outlines a strategic vision of the desired change by thoroughly analysing and describing the hypotheses behind each step (...) identifying the conditions that allow or deter each one of them, as well as the activities that produce the conditions and explain how these activities could work...
