    What type of solutions or initiatives could come out of the listening process?

    There are a few different solutions that could emerge from the listening process:

    1. Well-defined actions that directly respond to a need identified in the process and are already underway.

      or

    2. New ideas or opportunities which must be developed.

    In the first case, our work will entail informing the community1 of initiatives which address a specific problem.
    In the second, we will have to identify the most suitable agents for developing new ideas. Interested people or institutions may be involved, but each idea should be organised into a specific work group.

     

    What happens once an opportunity or specific action to be developed has been identified?

    Once the opportunity, partner(s), business model and potential sources of funding have been identified, a small prototype or test will be set up to check its viability. This will enable us to develop and create the business model, and subsequently revise and adapt it or even add new partners.

     

    What is a prototype?

    In the ”la Caixa” Foundation’s W4P Programme, a prototype is the trial of an employment-creating initiative that has been identified in the community listening process.

     

    Which prototype categories can be identified?

    There are five different prototype categories which require highly contrasting incubation and acceleration:

    • Community actions (without a business model).

    • Micro-entrepreneurship (1-5 people involved).

    • Small and medium-sized entrepreneurship (6-50 people involved).

    • Large-scale entrepreneurship (over 50 people involved).

    • Legal reform processes.

     

    Does the listening process always end in brand new proposals and solutions?

    No. One issue to bear in mind is: “90% of innovation cases don’t mean anything new is created; it’s more about connecting things that already exist with the needs and demands that exist in the social environment”. Gorka Espiau Idoaga, 2017.

    2. Prepare a storyboard for sharing in the collective interpretation space3, with a design sample from the Dansk Design Center.

  • GLOSSARY

    1. Community: A group of people from a village, region or nation.
    2. Co-creation: Community-led process via which solutions are found.
    3. Spaces for collective sense-making: Meeting places where, for example, events, meetings and workshops are held, and in which the dialogue and control groups take part with the aim of comparing the information gathered.
