Work 4 Progress promotes the creation of an innovation platform in northern India to improve the quality of life of poor communities through employment opportunities.


    We have developed an action and learning platform to promote job creation in two rural areas in the region of Uttar Pradesh (India): Varanasi and Jhansi.


    We work in collaboration with Development Alternatives and an extensive network of local agents:

    • Prerana, Swami Vivekanand Shiksha Samiti (SVSS), Bundelkhand University, Lok VIdya Sansthan, Rural Self Employment Training Institute in Mirzapur, District Industries Centre, District Urban Development Agency, State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Sarva Uttar Pradesh Gramin Rural Bank.


    • Bacha Iman is an entrepreneur who's set up a microenterprise for water purification based on reverse osmosis in the area of Nabiganj. His initiative provides employment for 3 people.

    • Together with a group of women from Orchha, Sakshi runs a microenterprise that produces organic compost. The firm supplies local farmers and provides employment for 10 people.

    • Meera Kushawaha has opened a bangle shop and her business is growing. She is the only woman in her village to run a shop (image 1).

    • Vandana Ahirwar is an entrepreneur running an online service center in Tikamgarh (image 2).

    • Veer Singh Rajput attended a workshop on entrepreneurship that motivated him to expand his organic compost business. He plans to buy a packaging machine to increase the value of his product in the market (image 3).
