INPhINIT is a new doctoral fellowship programme devoted to attracting international Early-Stage Researchers to the top Spanish research centres in the areas of Bio and Health Sciences, Physics, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. INPhINIT is promoted by the "la Caixa" Foundation with the aim of supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain by recruiting outstanding international students and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

INPhINIT recruits per call 57 Early-Stage Researchers of any nationality, who enjoy a 3-year employment contract at the Research Centre of their choice among those selected and awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness ("Severo Ochoa" centres of excellence and "Maria de Maeztu" units of excellence) and the Spanish Ministry of Health ("Carlos III centres of excellence"). In addition, researchers establish a personal career development plan including trasnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility opportunities, and attend a full range of complementary training courses and workshops.

INPhINIT relies on the European Commission's support through the Horizon 2020 Marie Sk?odowska-Curie Actions - COFUND programme to recruit a larger number of researchers and achieve a broader impact, as well as to further pursue the highest standards for research training.

INPhINIT collaborates with the top research centres in Spain, which will host INPhINIT fellows in one of their PhD programmes.

What do we offer

Mostrar texto Ocultar texto

INPhINIT fellows enjoy a 3-year contract under the Spanish labour legislation in force, respecting health and safety, and social security provisions in a stimulating research training environment, with access to appropriate equipment, facilities and opportunities.

INPhINIT fellows have a PhD supervisor appointed by the Research Centre, responsible for the research project. Fellows prepare short monitoring reports every three months, detailing their key achievements and future goals for each of the sections included in a career development plan, plus information about any ethical issues signed by both the student and supervisor.

In addition to the interdisciplinary training activities offered by the Research Centre, the INPhINIT programme sets up a comprehensive complementary skills training scheme that includes:

    • Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship workshops, aimed at familiarising fellows with issues such as intellectual property, licensing and spin-outs, entrepreneurship and knowledge transfer. This will be provided by Oxentia, the technology transfer company of the University of Oxford.

    • Professional and Career Development sessions, where fellows will consider their supervisory relationship, the importance of their professional development, self-management and planning. Particular attention will be given to values and research integrity, and the wider implications and impact of their research. Vitae, a British organisation, leader in realising the potential of researchers by transforming their professional and career development, will be responsible for these sessions.

High-quality academic and industrial secondments are offered both by the host institutions and the “la Caixa” Foundation to enhance INPhINIT fellows’ future career opportunities in both academia and industry. They may choose among national and international partners.

Each fellow has the opportunity to take advantage of being assigned a mentor from "la Caixa" Fellows' Association, based on academic disciplines and/or research interests.

INPhINIT fellows will take part in some of the several initiatives that the "la Caixa" Foundation launches to bring science to the whole society. For further information about these initiatives click Science and Society.

Scientific conferences and events organised by the Research Centres will help researchers to establish contacts, build new ties and initiate collaborations with both industry and academia, and to potentiate their career opportunities as independent researchers, together with the social activities promoted by "la Caixa" Fellows' Association.
