  • MAIN LINES OF ACTION UP TO 2019

    • Concentrate the work of ”la Caixa” Foundation on three main areas (social, research, and culture & education) to avoid spreading our efforts too thinly, thereby ensuring we optimise results.

    • Maintain our focus on social programmes, which account for more than half the budget. Expand the scope of key social activities - fighting child poverty and fostering employment - through projects that support the training and development of children and young people at risk of social exclusion.

    • Boost investment in research with a health-oriented strategy. Focus on training young scientists, supporting pioneering and innovative research centres and programmes and transferring the results of research to society.

    • Maintain excellence in educational and cultural activities, strengthening international alliances and enhancing the value of our own facilities, in particular the CaixaForum network and CosmoCaixa.

    • Transform the operational effectiveness of the programmes, changing the approach of our work from permanent to evolving, with phases of stimulus and consolidation but also passing on and winding down programmes when the goals have been achieved. Boost the innovative dimension of the programmes.

    • Position the institution as a centre for dialogue, discussion and reflection that helps to raise awareness among the population, highlighting existing or potentially new challenges for society.

    • Improve the efficiency and quality of our actions through the objective, rigorous and independent assessment of the programmes' impact, and by developing the talent of the ”la Caixa” Foundation team.

  • GUIDING PRINCIPLES

    • Subsidiarity: reinforce our own programmes as a differential of ”la Caixa” Foundation; in other words, not taking part in actions in which other agents are already working.

    • Sense of anticipation: programmes must respond to the future needs of society through new approaches, and must be designed so they can detect and resolve social problems from the earliest stages of implementation.

    • Concentrated efforts: reduce the number of programmes to achieve economies of scale and improve efficiency. The aim is to allocate more resources to those programmes with the greatest potential to transform.

    • Flexibility: design the programmes in a way that is adaptable to the changing demands of the environment, with phases of growth and development but also of winding down and passing programmes on to other organisations, or ending a programme when it has achieved its goals.

    • Scope: implement actions that benefit a wider population to ensure the programmes have maximum impact.
